We are continuing to explore a new way to connect with each other! The PMI-CTT Running Club is pleased to organize this second member and volunteer networking while hiking event. This event is facilitated by one of our volunteers, David Martin. David is a veteran hiker.
Date and Time: Sunday November 7, 1-4pm.
Location: The Marguerite Ormston Trailway at the Walter Bean Trailhead at Homer Watson Blvd and Doon South Road, Kitchener.
PDU Value: 1 Leadership PDU
Fees: Free for PMI members and volunteers and their family members
Hike starts and ends at The Marguerite Ormston Trailway at the Walter Bean Trailhead at Homer Watson Blvd and Doon South Road GPS Coords: 43.3899, -80.42089.
At almost 5 Km, this trail is a loop and is conveniently located, right off highway 401. There is lots of parking at the trailhead.
The trail is a moderately trafficked loop that passes The Grand River and is good for all skill levels. Dogs may use the trail but must be kept on a leash. For those that want to run 'alltrails' on their Smartphone, a map of the hike to use with the app is available here: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/canada/ontario/marguerite-ormston-trailway. You should not need to subscribe to the service to use the app with this trail.
There will be several breaks for brief talks on applying project management to hiking as a way of introducing project management professionals to hiking. These will include project initiation and what are the benefits of hiking; planning; risk management; and the tools and techniques available for planning and undertaking a hike.
We will make an alternative arrangement 2-3 days in advance and update participants if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Due to the COVID outdoor gathering restriction, please specify how many people, including yourself, you are bringing in during your registration.
David Martin has been a member with our chapter since 2006 and he is a veteran hiker, switching from canoeing and cycling to hiking in 2009. He obtained his PMP in 1995.
Mr. Martin has hiked the Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Yellowstone, and Joshua Tree National Parks in the US; several smaller mountains in China and Tibet; Algonquin and many other provincial and national parks and crown land in Ontario. He has mingled with wild Bison, Bears, Moose, Deer, Beavers, Coyotes, and many smaller animals and birds as he experienced nature in hikes of up to a week in duration. Mr. Martin used his project management skills to research and mitigate risks, plan excursions, and work the triple constraints of weight, function and luxury.
