From Mars to Nunavut: Challenges and Opportunities in Communications/IT
While cloud computing greatly increases the flexibility of the workplace, and the ability of IT staff to keep the security of the company up-to-date, relying so entirely on an internet-based solution can expose your workplace to a different type of risk. The long lead-times of the aerospace industry and difficult communication regime, combined with the speed of modern technological changes, exposed interesting and at times frustrating weak points in some of our technology options. While this may seem an extreme example, it can be very relevant to remote research stations, off-grid communities, and perhaps even defense operations.
Martha will share her experience with the HI-SEAS project, give an over-view of what it's trying to accomplish, and tie it to real world examples relevant to your industry.
